What We Believe
These are the things we believe in and will help further explain who are today.
- We accept the fundamental beliefs of the Scriptures as they tell us how God has revealed himself and his will for us. We believe God can be alive in our lives and we want our pastor to help us in this.
- We believe the Bible provides the basic authority for how the life of the church should be. It is the heart of our Christian Education curriculum.
- We believe that a person needs to accept Christ for himself or herself and that baptism by immersion should follow this commitment. For years we have accepted as members persons from other Christian traditions who are baptized and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
- We observe the Lord’s Supper monthly and open this time of spiritual strengthening to all believers.
- Calvary has a long tradition of impacting the society around us. This has been demonstrated by hosting other churches in our building, promoting a musical instrument teaching program by Music Works, and accommodating the Refugee Dream Center, a program whose counselors collaborate with transitional immigrants in the community. We welcome these ministerial and educational programs with open arms and hope this evangelistic outreach enriches all who participate in the love of Jesus Christ.
- God has given us the freedom to think for ourselves about what we believe. We do not have a creedal statement, although from time to time we have included the Apostles’ Creed in our worship service. We believe that God reveals his Will through the scriptures and that we need to be faithful to them.

- The autonomy of the local church is important to us. We need to make decisions about finances, budgeting, and building/property issues based on our understanding of the neighborhood. At the same time, Calvary wants and needs a family relationship with the larger Christian and Baptist family.
- We believe it is important to be in association with other Baptist churches for their benefit and ours.
- We have always been active in our denomination through the Annual Offerings, serving on regional committees and we are a member of the RI State Council of Churches.
- Calvary Baptist Church is a diverse congregation of people who come from many countries and backgrounds to worship God together. To be at Calvary and sit in the pews is evidence of the power of the Gospel to unite people from different nations, cultures, and races.
- We have a youth moment during service with a children’s message. Youth participate in the message and in the gospel choir.
- The worship service combines traditional music with contemporary worship, songs and hymns. The laity participates in the leadership of the service, reading Scripture, praying, singing, and praising God.
- The people are warm and welcoming. Sunday worship services begin at 10:00 AM, followed by fellowship. The sanctuary is handicap accessible. A large parking lot is next to the church.
