Hello Calvary Family! I pray that you had a wonderful vacation this summer. It’s important to make time for family, friends and yourself. So, I hope you made time to enjoy every moment. For we live in a world filled with turmoil and anxiety. People are losing their minds and acting out in very disturbing ways. This reality has made the world a very scary place, if we allow it to be. We give permission and access to many things that have no business being in our lives. You know what would relieve lots of stress from your life? Thankfulness! “Pastor, I have manners, I know how to say, ‘thank you’,” you might say. Manners have their place but I am talking about genuine gratitude for very basic things.
We serve a very generous God who loved us so much that He gave everything He had so we could be with Him (St. John 3:16-17). Yet, in the first sign of trouble, we flee from His presence as if to ask, “Where were You when I needed You?” We have all had those moments but it’s important not to stay there and keep them. That’s the time we need to dig in a little deeper in our faith and not be such a fair-weather friend. Jesus said in St. John 15:13-22, that His “greater love” saw past our sins, frailties and mistakes and saw someone for whom He was willing to die. That means you and me. He calls us friends. Jesus is a friend that can relate to our pain and suffering and help us through it. Once you realize the magnitude of what Jesus did, it should cause you to be perpetually thankful. I don’t know about you but I am thankful to be alive again! I am thankful to be able to share His love with and for others. I am thankful for the good times and the bad times. For each one showed me the power of God to help me rejoice and trust Him more. I encourage you to be thankful in everything (1 Thess. 5:18). Just watch and see how your outlook on life will change and how someone else will get to know the power of God in their lives from the example you set. Take a moment to consider at least one thing for which you are grateful to God and thank Him. Share your testimony with us. May God richly bless you!
